Who We Are

Founded in 1979 by Robert A. Harbinson, IDA is a second-generation family-owned company specializing in the engineering, fabrication, project management, and installation of architectural building envelope systems. For more than 45 years, we have partnered with owners, architects, construction managers, and general contractors to deliver innovative façade solutions for complex commercial, institutional, transportation, and high-rise projects throughout the Northeast.

Today, IDA operates through two affiliated companies:

IDA Exterior Systems, LLC – Established in 2015, IDA Exterior Systems is the company's contracting division, providing estimating, project management, engineering coordination, and field installation services.
IDA International Inc. – IDA International specializes in the engineering, fabrication, and distribution of architectural metal and composite panel systems, supporting projects across the United States and internationally.

What We Do

IDA provides complete building envelope solutions, including architectural metal panel systems, aluminum composite material (ACM) panels, custom façade engineering, occupied-building recladding, exterior renovations, design-build project delivery, project management, engineering, detailing, custom fabrication, and installation.

Our integrated approach manages every phase of a project—from preconstruction coordination and engineering through fabrication and final installation—providing quality, efficiency, and accountability under one team.

Where We Work

Headquartered in Derby, Connecticut, IDA operates from more than 50,000 square feet of office, engineering, fabrication, warehouse, and storage space within the Housatonic Industrial Park. We primarily serve Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Pennsylvania, while IDA International also supports projects throughout the United States and internationally, including Mexico. Our facility is powered entirely by on-site renewable energy.

IDA Exterior Systems is owned and operated by Norman Harbinson.

IDA International Inc. is owned by brothers Norman and Tom Harbinson, continuing the vision established by founder Robert A. Harbinson.
